Funding Parks and Recreation Paragraph 2

My main goal with this video was to eliminate the use of verbal pauses. It is noticeable; to me, when I wanted to use "um" in my sentences. I replaced "um" with a very long pause; by not using "um" I lost my train of thought. I also decided to improvise with this video due to the fact that the majority of my public speaking is on the fly. I also need to remember to annunciate more clearly when I am speaking publicly. I also find it very challenging when I am speaking publicly not to speak in a monotone manner. I tried to use more vocal expressions when doing this video. I'm not sure how I did with controlling my rate of speech when I made this video, but tried not to speak to fast or to slow.

  1. Hi Laura! Well it seems we all need practice at public speaking. It was hard to tell if you were reading much of your notes because the lighting is all behind you and I can't see your face too well. But I thought for the most part you knew what you wanted to say. I tried to memorize, but it would have taken me a lot longer to get my homework done. You had a lot of good information, but if this is just one of your 3 points, then it might seem a little long. I don't know if I were in an audience and you were telling me the whole story if it would be too long or not. I guess we will find out shortly when our homework is the full speech.

  2. Lovely hair Laura! I like it! It takes practice to not use filler words and have pauses instead. I have the same problem with losing my train of thought quite often. Having the funds to support all the various programs the city provides does take knowledge and skill from the elected officials. I have the sense that many people do not live in Benson long term because there is not a strong sense of community. There are certain holiday celebrations when the town comes together but other than those 5 or 6 times, I don't see much of community interaction on a greater scale. Parks and Recreation provides that glue a lot of times to bind a community together. Look at all the events that Bisbee has, a lot of them have to do with the arts, but they are a town smaller than us. They do have more tourist appeal than us but we have the advantage of being close to Tucson and right off of the freeway. I'm sure you know of many events and activities parks and rec have sponsored in the past or that other cities have done. The issue you are showing to us here is that there is not any funding to provide for these city sponsored events. One thing I think would be fun and maybe it could generate money on its own is to bring back the railroad history and possibly have train excursions to a certain destination for a discounted price. Or there was a train that went on a little jaunt, I can't remember where it went but I took it on a field trip in primary school. That instilled in me my romanticism for trains and it was such a fun and memorable activity. Yet, there are always ideas, it's being realistic and coming up with how to fund it that is harder and limited solutions.
